Free Things to Do in Atlanta

Atlanta has plenty of activities to offer, but for those of you who are looking to have fun on a budget, I’ve put together a list of freebies in town. I’ve included things that most locals know about like Piedmont Park and Centennial Olympic Park, but did you know that you can visit the High Museum of Art for free? Check it out!

Incluí coisas que a maioria das pessoas que moram em Atlanta conhecem, como o Piedmont Park e o Centennial Olympic Park, mas você sabia que pode visitar o High Museum of Art de graça? Confira!

1. WALK, BIKE, RUN ON THE ATLANTA BELTLINE

Explore miles of the Atlanta BeltLine by foot or on two wheels. If you start getting hungry, stop at one of the many restaurants along the path to relax and refuel. With all the  artwork, unique neighborhood shops and restaurants, the BeltLine is an easy way to stay active and have fun in Atlanta.

Explore os vários kilometros do Atlanta BeltLine à pé ou em duas rodas. Se sentir fome, pare em um dos restaurantes ao longo do caminho para relaxar e reabastecer. Com os grafites, as obras de arte, lojas e restaurantes, o BeltLine é uma maneira fácil de fazer exercício e também se divertir em Atlanta.

2. ENJOY PIEDMONT PARK

Stroll through more than 200 acres of green space without leaving the city. Run, walk, rollerblade, have a picnic, play in the playgrounds, take your dog for a walk or simply enjoy the park.

Passeie por um mega espaço verde sem sair da cidade. Corra, ande, patine, faça um piquenique, brinque nos playgrounds, leve seu cachorro para passear ou simplesmente aproveite o parque.

3. HIKE STONE MOUNTAIN

If you don’t buy any special passes to ride the Skyride, you can simply pay for parking and hike up the mountain. At the top, it has great views of the city!

4. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

Atlanta has a rich civil rights history. Visit the birth home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and see where he preached at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Explore his legacy at King Center and his final resting place.

5. COOL OFF AT CENTENNIAL OLYMPIC PARK

Pay homage to Atlanta’s Olympic legacy, splash around in the Fountain of Rings or enjoy a nice picnic. Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, CNN Center, Center for Civil and Human Rights, and Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame are all only steps away. And there is also free music and events throughout the year.

7. CHECK OUT THE CARTER CENTER

It’s a legit cool look into President Carter and the First Lady’s mission to make the world a better place. Visit the Circle of Flags, rose garden, Japanese garden, and koi pond. Just  the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library & Museum costs $8 for adults and children under 16 are free.

8. SHOOT THE HOOCH (SUMMER / WARM WEATHER)

You’ll need your own float (you can rent one there too), but once you have your own, you can hop in the Chattahoochee and float along the calm waters.

Pro-tip: It’s good to have two cars and park one at the exit point, the Uber drivers will not want to have you all wet on their cars. Parking is free.

Dica: é bom ter dois carros e estacionar um no ponto de saída para você conseguir ir embora, muitos Ubers não vão querer pegar vocês todos molhados no carro deles. O estacionamento é gratuito.

9. HIGH MUSEUM OF ART FOR FREE

Normally you need to pay to get into the museum, but on the second Sunday of every month from 12 to 5pm, score free tickets to the High Museum of Art and expand your artistic horizons at no cost!

Normalmente você precisa pagar para entrar no museu, mas no segundo domingo de cada mês das 12 às 17h, os ingressos são grátis para o High Museum of Art e assim você pode expandir seus horizontes artísticos sem nenhum custo!
