On the beginning of April was my 2 years anniversary and I decided to give to my husband a surprise weekend trip to North Georgia, we were talking a lot about going to the vineyards over there and I thought would be a perfect gift as we love to give each other experiences!
First thing that I decided was the vineyard, I research a lot on blogs, websites and Instagrams. I end up choosing the Yonah Mountain Vineyards, they have amazing reviews and I loved that they have a different tour that is the Wine Cave tour and tasting, where they show you were the wine is made, how it works and you got to taste some amazing wines while doing the tour, the cost is $40 per person and you taste 8 different wines. I really enjoyed the tour and I thought it was worth it but if you just want to do the tasting they do have some other options too! Something that I loved is their outdoor patio that is incredible to be when the weather is good, after our tour we spend more 4 hours drinking more wine and enjoying the view!
No começo de Abril foi o meu aniversário de casamento de 2 anos e eu decidi dar para o meu marido de presente uma viagem surpresa para o norte da Georgia (estado que moramos aqui nos Estados Unidos), nós estávamos falando bastante em ir conhecer essa região e ir nas vinícolas que tem por lá, por isso pensei que seria o presente perfeito para dar para ele já que adoramos nos dar experiencias como presentes!
A primeira coisa que eu decidi foi a vinícola, pesquisei bastante em blogs, sites e Instagrams. Eu acabei escolhendo a Yonah Mountain Vineyards, eles tem ótimos reviews e eu amei que eles oferecem um tour diferente, a Wine Cave tour and tasting, onde eles mostram onde os vinhos são feitos e como são feitos e durante o tour você faz degustação dos vinhos deles. O tour custa $40 por pessoa e você degusta 8 vinhos. Eu realmente gostei do tour, achei diferente mas se você só quiser fazer a degustação, eles também tem outras opções! Uma coisa que eu amei lá foi a area ao ar livre que eles tem, se o tempo estiver bom é lá que você vai querer estar, depois do nosso tour ficamos lá por mais umas 4 horas bebendo mais vinho e aproveitando a vista linda!
So the first step to our trip was decided and them it was time to look for places to stay, so at the vineyard website they recommend accommodation of places that are near by, and I found over there the Mountain Laurel Farm, a lovely family farmhouse with an amazing mountain view. The owner, Melody and her daughter were super nice and they made sure we had plans and they gave us some recommendations on places to visit, I definitely recommend staying there! The trip from Atlanta to where we stayed (near Helen) is about 1h and a half hour by car, you can go as a day trip but if you are thinking of going to any of the vineyards I strongly suggest to stay the night there and enjoy what the region has to offer!
Com o primeiro passo da viagem já decidido precisava olhar lugares para ficar, no site da vinícola eles dão recomendações de lugares por perto para se hospedar e foi lá que eu achei a Mountain Laurel Farm, uma fazenda familiar super charmosa com uma vista maravilhosa para as montanhas. A dona, Melody e a filha dela foram super atenciosas com a gente e nos ajudaram com recomendações de coisas para fazer e restaurantes para irmos, eu super recomendo se hospedar lá! A viagem de carro de Atlanta para onde ficamos (perto de Helen) dá mais ou menos 1 hora e meia, e você sim pode fazer uma viagem de bate-e-volta mas se você quer ir nas vinícolas, super recomendo passar a noite por lá e aproveitar o que a região tem a oferecer!
As we stay near Helen, it had plenty of options of restaurants and things to do near by, Helen is a small Bavarian-style town and they have great German restaurants, we went to the Bondensee that has delicious German food and beer, their spaetzle is amazing! If you want some American food Bigg Daddy is a good option, but just a tip, the portions are huuuuge so you can definitely share!
Another cool thing to do near by is hiking and going to the waterfalls, we didn’t have a lot of time so we just did the Duke Creek Falls, an easy hike with an amazing waterfall in the end, super worth it and great for families with kids too!
Nós ficamos perto de Helen, onde tem várias opções de restaurantes e coisas para fazer por perto, Helen é uma cidade pequena com características alemãs na sua arquitetura e na gastronomia, nós fomos em um restaurante alemão super gostoso que se chama Bondensee, experimentem o spaetzle deles, é maravilhoso! Mas se você quiser uma comida mais americana, tem o Bigg Daddy que também é gostoso, mas as porções deles são gigantescas então em duas pessoas tranquilamente você consegue dividir um prato!
Outra coisa legal de fazer por lá são as trilhas e visitar as cachoeiras, como nós não tínhamos muito tempo lá, só fizemos a Duke Creek Falls, uma trilha bem tranquila com uma cachoeira linda no final, super vale a pena e ótimo passeio para fazer com crianças também!
I don’t need to say that my surprise trip was a success, my husband loved the gift and we had an amazing time there, I definitely want to go back to North Georgia, it has so much things to see there! Have you been to North Georgia? If yes, tell me in the comments what’s your favorite place there!
