Chattanooga is such a great USA road trip destination! Have you heard of Ruby Falls, Rock City or Lookout Mountain? If no, google it, they are all located in Chattanooga. After viewing pictures of these locations, I was convinced to visit. I went last year with my mom but just for a day trip (post here!), but this time we decided to stay there for 2 nights and it was great! As we always do, our trip started with a breakfast at Waffle House (always our road trip stop), so check it out all of the things we saw, ate and did in Chattanooga!
Chattanooga é um destino perfeito para uma viagem de carro aqui nos Estados Unidos! Você já ouviu falar de Ruby Falls, Rock City ou Lookout Mountain? Se não, da uma ‘googleada’, todos estão em Chattanooga. Depois de ver fotos desses lugares, eu estava convencida de visitar a cidade. Fui no ano passado com a minha mãe mas só para uma day trip (post aqui!), mas dessa vez decidimos passar 2 noites lá e foi super gostoso! Como sempre, começamos a nossa viagem com uma parada para o café da manhã no Waffle House (já virou costume!), então confira todas as coisas que vimos, comemos e fizemos em Chattanooga!
HOW TO GET THERE
There are a few ways to get to Chattanooga. If you are in Atlanta, Chattanooga will be a super easy 2 hours drive. But if you are further away, Chattanooga does have an airpot so you’ll fly into the Chattanooga Airport there are several direct flights all throughout the United States, including Chicago, Dallas, Orlando, Detroit, New York City, Washinton DC and Philadelphia.
Existem algumas maneiras de chegar em Chattanooga. Se você estiver em Atlanta, são apenas 2 horas de carro para lá. Mas se você estiver mais longe, Chattanooga conta um aeroporto, com vários vôos diretos por todo os Estados Unidos, incluindo Chicago, Dallas, Orlando, Detroit, New York City, Washinton DC e Philadelphia.
WHERE TO STAY
Downtown is the best area to stay in Chattanooga as this is where you’ll find major attractions like the Tennessee Riverwalk, the Tennessee Aquarium and the Walnut Street Bridge, and not a drive to other attractions like the Ruby Falls and the Rock City. Also in Downtown you can walk to a lot of restaurants and bars. We choose to stay at the Stay Alfred vacation home, as we love to stay at a full house/apartment. We stayed at a Stay Alfred in Savannah too and we loved it, the locations are great and the apartments are super new and clean (a must for me!).
Downtown é a melhor área para ficar em Chattanooga já que várias das atraçōes da cidade estão por lá, como o Tennessee Riverwalk, o Tennessee Aquarium e o Walnut Street Bridge, e também não fica muito longe de outras atraçōes como o Ruby Falls e o Rock City. Lá em Downton você também consegue ir andando para vários restaurantes e bares. Nós escolhemos ficar no Stay Alfred que é uma empresa que faz aluguel de apartamentos, eu conheci o Stay Alfred quando nós fomos para Savannah e eu adorei os dois apartamentos que nós ficamos, as localizaçōes são ótimas e é tudo super novinho e limpo (uma necessidade para mim!).
THINGS TO DO
ROCK CITY
Rock City is a series of ancient rock formations and gardens at the top of Lookout Mountain. From the highest point, on a clear day, you can see seven states (Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia). Rock City is 1,700 feet above sea level, with a 100-foot waterfall that cascades down the mountain. The view from the top is amazing and a tip, try to come early because it gets really packed by the middle of the day.
Rock City é uma antiga formações rochosas com jardins no topo da Lookout Mountain. No ponto mais alto, você consegue ver sete estados (Alabama, Kentucky, Geórgia, Carolina do Norte, Carolina do Sul, Tennessee e Virgínia). Rock City é 520 metros acima do nível do mar, com uma cachoeira de 30 metros de altura que desce da montanha. A vista do topo mais alto é incrível e uma dica, tente chegar cedo porque fica bem cheio perto do meio-dia.
RUBY FALLS
Ruby Falls is at the base of a mountain which is home to America’s deepest commercial cave and tallest underground waterfall. An elevator ride takes you deep inside of the limestone cave where a guide will lead and show you interesting geological formations along the way, like stalactites and stalagmites taking on fun shapes, you’ll end the tour with a magnificent view of the a 145-foot waterfall with a show of light and music that make tour even more special! It was discovered by Leo Lambert who named the waterfall after his wife, Ruby. Ruby Falls is estimated to be 30 million years old. Guided regular tours run 8am to 8pm.
A Ruby Falls fica na base da montanha que abriga a caverna mais profunda dos Estados Unidos e a mais alta cachoeira subterrânea. Um elevador leva você para dentro da caverna de calcário, onde um guia mostra interessantes formações geológicas ao longo do caminho, como estalactites e estalagmites, o tour termina com uma vista magnífica da cacheira com um show com luzes e música, que deixa o passeio ainda mais especial! Foi descoberta por Leo Lambert, que nomeou a cachoeira com o nome de sua esposa, Ruby. Ruby Falls tem aproximadamente 30 milhões de anos. Todas visitas são guiadas e vão 8h às 20h.
INCLINE RAILWAY
Billed as “America’s Most Amazing Mile,” the railway transports passengers up the steepest part of the mountain on a nearly 73 percent grade track, making it one of the steepest passenger railways in the world. The ride is cool and it has as pretty view at the top of the mountain. However, I felt that the price is high for such a short ride (15min each way), the only thing on the top of the mountain is the view and nothing more and the worst for me is the long wait times (we waited 1 hour in line). But is it worth it? For me, no… But if you still want to go, you can buy the combo ticket with the Incline Railway + Rock City + Ruby Fall, for a better price, at this link.
Anunciada como a “Milha Mais Incrível da América”, o bondinho transporta passageiros até a parte mais íngreme da montanha em uma angulo de quase 73 graus, tornando-a uma das ferrovias mais íngremes do mundo. O passeio em si é legal e diferente e a paisagem no topo da montanha é linda. Mas, achei o preço bem caro para o tempo que dura o passeio (15min cada trecho), no topo da montanha não tem nada além da vista e para mim a pior parte foi o tempo de espera na fila (ficamos 1 hora para conseguir pegar o bondinho). Se você perguntar para mim se vale a pena, vou dizer que não… Mas se mesmo assim você quiser ir, você pode comprar o combo de tickets, aqui nesse link, que dão acesso ao Incline Railway + Rock City + Ruby Fall, que tem um preço melhor.

- Maple Street: one of the most delicious biscuit that I ever had! There is a big line to order but sooo worth it, try the Squawking Goat with chicken, fried goat cheese and pepper jelly, soooo good!
- Bantam and Biddy: good place for an easy and faster breakfast, it was on the same building that our apartment so it was a great option for us! We got the Build your own Biscuit ($9), great size and it was simple but delicious.
- Cumplies Ice Cream: great ice cream place super close to the Incline Railway, so if you are going there, make sure you stop at this cute ice cream shop! TIP: get the Waffle cone, it’s amazing!
- 1885 Grill: we went there before going to the Incline Railway, they have good burgers.
- Citron Et Sel: cool Mexican restaurant, the food was great and the margarita was amazing!
- Maple Street: um dos melhores biscuits que eu já comi na vida! Tem uma fila bem grandinha para pedir mas vale muuuito a pena, pedi o Squawking Goat com frango, queijo de cabra frito e geleia de pimenta, muuuito bom!
- Bantam and Biddy: lugar gostoso para um café da manhã mais rápido, fica no mesmo prédio que o nosso apartamento então era super conveniente. Nós pedimos o Build your own Biscuit ($9), que tem um tamanho ótimo, é mais simples mas super gostoso.
- Cumplies Ice Cream: lugar super gostosinho de sorvete, bem perto do Incline Railway, então se por acaso você for lá, pare para tomar um sorvete super gostoso! DICA: peça no Waffle cone, é muito gostoso, se bobiar melhor que o sorvete!
- 1885 Grill: nós fomos lá antes de ir no Incline Railway, eles tem hamburgers super gostosos.
- Citron Et Sel: restaurante mexicano bem gostoso e cool, com comidas boas mas a margarita deles ganha o premio!
TIPS
Buy the tickets for the Rock City, Ruby Falls and the Incline Railway together, this way you will have some discount and can save some money. You also can buy it online.
