Even living in Atlanta, I never gave Jack Daniel’s Distillery much thought as me and my husband are not the biggest fan of whiskey, but a lot of people recommended to us so we finally decided to add the Jack Daniel’s Distillery to our bucket list. Last year in October my mother-in-law was visiting us so we thought that it was the perfect time to visit Jack Daniel’s, we had a great time and definitely recommend to everyone, even if you are not a big fan of whiskey! Em Outubro do ano passado, a minha sogra veio nos visitar então pensamos que era o momento perfeito para visitar a Jack Daniel’s, valeu super a pena a visita e super recomendo a todos, mesmo que você não ame whiskey! HOW TO GET THERE
The drive to Lynchburg from my home in Atlanta was a little over 3 hours. The route went through Chattanooga and of course we had to stop at a Waffle House for a quick and yummy breakfast (no road trip is complete without a stop at a Waffle House or at a Cracker Barrel!). Lynchburg could be an easy side trip for anyone traveling through Tennessee. The distillery is only 1.5 hours from Nashville, 4.5 hours from Memphis, and 3.5 from Knoxville.

O caminho passa por Chattanooga e é claro que tivemos que parar em uma Waffle House para tomar um café da manhã rápido e bem gordinho (nenhuma viagem de carro está completa sem uma parada no Waffle House ou em no Cracker Barrel!). Lynchburg pode ser uma viagem secundária para quem está viajando pelo Tennessee. A destilaria fica a apenas 1,5 hora de Nashville, 4,5 horas de Memphis e 3,5 horas de Knoxville.
MUSEUM
We arrived a little early for our tour, which gave us time to explore the museum in the main lobby. The small exhibit provided some great information that set the stage for the upcoming tour. Although some details have been lost in time, Jasper Daniel was born around 1849 in Lynchburg, Tennessee. He never married or had kids, but eventually passed his whiskey company to his nephew. In 1884 Jack Daniel took over his mentor’s distillery and purchased the land and hollow where the distillery still stands today.
By 1880 Jack Daniel’s was one of 15 distilleries in the county. The whiskey gained national recognition when it won the gold medal for “finest whiskey” at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. However, around this time the prohibition movement was gaining traction in Tennessee, so the company began distilling in St. Louis and Birmingham.
Unfortunately, this was an unsuccessful move due to quality concerns. The whiskey needed to be made from the hollow’s water in order to achieve its award-winning flavor. In 1938 production finally restarted at the Lynchburg distillery allowing for the signature Jack Daniel’s whiskey to once again be produced.

A pequena exposição mostra algumas informações sobre a destilaria e sua história. Embora alguns detalhes tenham se perdido no tempo, Jasper Daniel nasceu por volta de 1849 em Lynchburg, Tennessee. Ele nunca se casou ou teve filhos, mas acabou passando sua empresa de whiskey para o seu sobrinho. DISTILLERY TOUR
There are a few different tour options, but we chose the Flight of Jack Daniel’s Tour. This tour was $17 and I felt that it would offer the best overview of the distillery and Jack Daniel’s story.
The tour lasted 1.5 hours and included an overview of the history, distilling process, and a look inside the bottling factory. I never realized how much goes into creating a bottle of Jack (I learned all about the charcoal mellowing and aging processes). The tour also includes a visit to Cave Spring Hollow, the natural limestone spring that provides water for every bottle.
The tour ended in the tasting room. The guide gave everyone 5 Jack Daniel’s samples. These included Gentlemen Jack, Old No 7, Single Barrel Select, Jack Daniel’s Rye, and Tennessee Fire. The tour guide gave us an overview of each style, how to best taste it, and what we should expect out of the flavor. The tour ended in a gift shop (of course), where you can purchase many different varieties of Jack Daniel’s, as well as gifts and souvenirs.

Nunca percebi o quanto é necessário para criar uma garrafa de Jack (aprendi tudo sobre os processos de amadurecimento e envelhecimento do carvão). O tour também inclui uma visita à Cave Spring Hollow, a fonte natural de calcário que fornece água para cada garrafa de Jack.
O tour termina na sala de degustação. Você recebe 5 amostras de Jack Daniel’s. Os que eu experimentei foram: Gentlemen Jack, Old No 7, Single Barrel Select, Jack Daniel’s Rye e Tennessee Fire. O guia nos deu uma visão geral de cada estilo, a melhor forma de degustar e o que devemos esperar do sabor. O passeio terminou em um gift shop (é claro), onde você pode comprar várias variedades diferentes de Jack Daniel’s, bem como presentes e souvenirs.
WHERE TO EAT
- Barrelhouse BBQ: this BBQ place was recommended as the number one spot to eat in Lynchburg (of a few other restaurants), but it was really good, we got the Grilled Cheese on Crack ($6.99) that was super delicious!

OTHER THINGS TO DO IN LYNCHBURG, TENNESSEE
If you plan to spend any additional time in Lynchburg, be aware that this is a very small town, so there is not much to do besides the Jack Daniel’s Distillery. The downtown area had a few restaurants and shops, which mostly sell Jack Daniel’s souvenirs and Moon Pie, but worth a quick visit! It’s not worth to spend the night in Lynchburg, what we did was to visit the distillery and the city, than drive back to Chattanooga and we stayed there for a few days and enjoy the city. Se você planeja passar algum tempo a mais em Lynchburg, esteja ciente de que esta é uma cidade bem pequena, então não tem muito o que fazer além da Destilaria Jack Daniel’s. O centro da cidade tem alguns restaurantes e lojas, que vendem principalmente souvenirs do Jack Daniel’s e Moon Pie, mas vale uma visita depois do tour!
