Dinner at O-Ku Sushi Atlanta

p-10-Exterior-DaveCrawford_54_990x660 (1)

For my husband’s birthday I took him a Japanese restaurant, O-Ku, it is located at West Midtown and headed by Chef Jackie Chang. Before we went, I had heard a lot about the restaurant and as me and my husband love Japanese food, we were super excited to go there! O-Ku offers skyline views of the city, creative sushi rolls, impressively fresh ingredients and cocktails, do you need any more reasons to visit O-Ku Sushi? Chef Chang, who most recently worked as the lead chef of Umi in Buckhead, hopes to blend his traditional training with his innovative takes on the cuisine.

Like the food and beverage menus, the design and decor are a blend of sophisticated and casual, with Japanese elements such as a decorative tile mural, industrial elements including exposed brick walls and steel beams.

We wanted to try a lot of different things from the menu so we share everything we ordered. We started with the Big Eye Tuna Tartare ($16) and the Hamachi Carpaccio ($15), both were delicious and super fresh but the carpaccio was the best for us! After, we got some salmon and tuna sashimis ($3/$4 – 2 pc), Salmon Citrus nigiri ($6/pc) and Marmalade  nigiri ($5/pc), everything was so good and by eating the sashimis you can definitely see how fresh the fish is! To finish, we ordered some rolls, we got the Marilyn Mon Roll ($12) and the Black Magic ($21). If you are planning to go to O-ku, you should definitely go for the Hamachi Carpaccio and the Black Magic shushi, for us were the best ones we tried! For drinks we got the Hot Sake ($11/little bottle) and the Hibiscus Ginger Tea ($6), the tea is a great option if you don’t want to drink alcohol but you still want something different and delicious.

Early Dinner at Doraku Buckhead

Screenshot_1

A couple weeks ago, me and my husband were at the Lenox Square, here in Atlanta and we wanted to eat sushi sooo bad! We were looking at Yelp to find a nice Japanese restaurant near the mall and we found the Doraku at Buckhead! That day we had a late and big breakfast, so at 5pm we decided to have a late lunch/early dinner, when we arrived at the restaurant it had just opened, and we were glad it wasn’t full because we were way to hungry to wait! One thing that is super nice if you go to their happy hour that is every day from 5pm to 8pm you have discounts in some menu items we also got the house wine for half of the price because was Saturday happy hour!

Me and my husband share all the plates we ordered so we could try a little bit of everything. As appetizers we ordered the Edamame Hommus ($6.95), that is seasoned with roasted sesame and yuzu, served with toasted brioche, that it was so good, if you go there you should definitely try it. After we ordered a salmon hand roll ($4 on happy hour price), the Chef Selection of Sushi+ Sashimi ($31) and the White Dragon Roll ($11.95), my favorite one was the roll that combined a lot of different flavors and it was delicious, but all the food tasted great and it was super fresh! For dessert, we got the Brownie Tempura ($7.50) that is to die for, one of the best desserts I ever had!

We loved everything about Doraku, the food, the service, the decor and of course the happy hour discounts! We would come back again and hopefully soon!! If you are looking for fresh, authentic Japanese restaurant and delicious food, you should check out Doraku in Buckhead!

The restaurant offers a Brazilian cuisine, bringing the Tupinquim ingredients that were overlooked by or unfamiliar to other renowned chefs, such as priprioca, black rice and palm heart, all the foods surprise and stimulate the palate, a mix of intense and unexpected flavors forming the perfect match! Not only a restaurant but a gastronomic experience. The food, the presentation of the dishes, the decor and the service, make the experience unique and incredible. We opted for the Menu Maximus with wine pairing, a tasting menu with 13 main dishes, 1 pre-dessert and 2 desserts, they also have the options of a fewer dishes and the vegetarian menu, all of them you can have the wine pairing or not.

Dinner in São Paulo at Siló

Fotor_150720679552329(1)

Me and my husband are back to Brazil for a couple of days, he came for work and since I was waiting for my work authorization, I decided to come with him and visit our families and friends and enjoy our time here. And what’s better than get together with the family and to eat a great food? Last weekend we went to this super nice restaurant, Siló Forneria, a modern place with apparent pipes, entrance with natural light and rustic walls, but the real highlight is that some of the foods are cooked in the wood oven and everything is absolutely incredible.

We had a big table and for the entrance we ordered the meat empanadas and the “pastéis” of shitake, that it was to die for, so incredible! For main course, I ordered the pizzetta of prosciutto di Parma and my husband the bovine rib, which were so good! The tuna with sesame crust, the entrecote and the brie risotto were other dishes served to our table, all the plates had a great presentation and tasted delicious, especially with the red wine we ordered! For dessert, we got the cacao crepe with dulce de leche that was great but really sweet.

Siló is a great restaurant to go with your family or even for a date, the food is fantastic and the decor is really nice, we will definitely come back again!

Trip to San Francisco

IMG_20170723_120541712_HDR

This summer I went on a trip to San Francisco with my husband and his family, we stayed there for a week and we got time to visit a lot of places and eat in some great restaurants! We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Hotel which is close to Union Square, it was a great location with lots of shops and restaurants.  Now I am going to put a list and tips of what to do and where to eat in the city.

What to Do

Since we had a week there we did a lot of things but I am going to suggest the top 5 things you can’t miss while visiting San Francisco:

1.Go to Golden Gate Bridge: or you can walk or bike across, it is one of the most famous bridges in the world and the view of the city is just incredible from there, but sometimes the fog is so strong that you cannot see anything, so before you go, check how it is. And wear a jacket, this is the best advice I can give you, it is really windy there.

2.Ride a cable car: OK, few locals ride cable cars, but it is part of a San Francisco experience, everyone should do it at least once. We went during school vacations so the city was really full and it wasn’t that easy to get on a cable car, you need to be very patient, and a tip, don’t count on cable cars to be your main way of transportation, it can be really frustrating.

3.Drive down the Lombard Street: is one of the most unique vertically curvy street and is a great stop to add to any itinerary, you can either walk or ride down the street.  On the top of the Lombard Street is one of the most beautiful views of the city with the sea and the houses there are all so charming (poor people that lives there!).

4.Day trip to Napa Valley: if you are going to be in San Francisco for more than 3 days you should definitely go to a vineyard in Napa, it is 1h40 minutes ride but it is so worth it. We went to the Starling Vineyards, that was a recommendation of our hotel and it was great, we did some wine tasting and a visit to the vineyard and in the end you can enjoy your last wine with the most amazing view of the place.

5.Do the audio tour in Alcatraz: it really is much cooler than you think. Once home to some of America’s most notorious criminals, the federal penitentiary that operated here from 1934 to 1963 brought a dark mystique to “The Rock”, you can do an audio tour through all the prison narrated by ex-guards and ex-prisoners telling you the history of the island and its the most beautiful view of San Francisco.

Where to Eat

Here is a list of some restaurants that we went that I really like, some in San Francisco and in other close cities:

1.The Franciscan: located at the pier 43, has the most beautiful view of San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. It is a restaurant specializing in crab and has great sea food. For appetizer, we ordered the Iron Skillet Rosted with mussels, shrimp and crab, and our main course was the famous crab and clam chowder on the bread bowl.

2.È Tutto Qua!: a real Italian restaurant, the staff are really welcome and the food is great! Everyone on the table ordered pizza, for me the best pizza flavor was the Italiana with prosciutto, arugula, fresh mozzarella and shaved parmesan.

3.Hakkasan: located on the second floor of the iconic One Kearny building in downtown San Francisco, it is one of the best Chinese restaurants in town. All the dishes are to share so everybody on the table can eat a little bit of everything, we ordered hakka organic pork belly, baked lamb chop, spicy prawn and three-style mushroom. The food was delicious and the decor is really cool.

4.The Spinnaker: only a minute’s drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, in Sausalito is The Spinnaker. The restaurant has a floor to ceiling glass walls with a view of San Francisco skyline, Sausalito Waterfront, Alcatraz and the Bay Bridge. There you can appreciate a delicious sea food with an amazing view!

5.Cascal: if you are going to visit Apple and Google you should definitely stop at Mountain View and have lunch at Cascal. The restaurant concept is to mix the traditional Spanish food with the warm hospitality of Latin America. The decor is so pretty and the food is amazing, we ordered fried olives, beef empanadas, braised pork belly, wild mushroom empanadas (one of the best things I ate in my life, really!) and Peruvian ceviche for the whole table.
